The following FAQs are questions we routinely answer from patients. If you have a question that is not answered here, feel free to contact one of the staff at 303-781-8439 and any one of us can
assist you with your inquiry.
I didn't ask for your services, so why did you see me?
Our physicians admit for dozens of primary care physicians (PCPs) and provide consultative services to specialists such as surgeons in the hospital. If your PCP indicated to the Emergency Room
that he/she wishes for us to take care of you in the event of hospitalization, than this is why you were seen by one of our physicians.
I had a planned surgery performed, so why did you see me?
Frequently, when elective surgery is performed, there are medical issues (versus purely surgical issues) that your surgeon is not trained to treat and will consult us to care for those issues.
Under these circumstances the surgeon will specifically request for one of our physicians to see you while you are in the hospital most likely post-operatively.
What is a Hospitalist?
A Hospitalist is a physician whose practice takes place within the hospital providing admissions and consultations to hospitalized patients. Hospitalists typically have no clinic or outpatient
practice and are considered to be an extension of your PCP. Hospitalists do not replace PCPs, but rather provide hospital care in place of your PCP.
How will my PCP receive information about my hospital- ization?
Our physicians stay in close contact from the day you are admitted or when we first see you in the hospital to the day you are discharge. When you are discharged your discharge summary is faxed to
your PCP in time for your follow-up appointment.
Are you contracted with my insurance plan?
Hospitalist medicine is slightly different than that of your clinic based PCP. Here in Colorado, insurance carriers must treat Hospitalists as if they are in-network if the patient had no choice
of physician. This means that your claim must be treated as if we had a contract with your carrier because you had no choice at the time the treatment was rendered. Because of this statute,
contracting is not an issue for any Hospitalist in the state of Colorado. You will be billed for deductibles or copays as appropriate per your insurance agreement. Currently, we are contracted with
Medicare, Medicaid (Colorado and other states as required), Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Kaiser.
If I do not have health insurance coverage, what do I do?
We work closely with the hospitals we admit to as well as case management while you are in the hospital. If you qualify for any programs, you will most likely be approached by hospital staff to
apply for these programs. If you have extenuating circumstances of any kind, please forward them in writing to our Administrator, Dea Robinson at the address listed on our home page. We consider
charity on a case-by-case basis, however we must have proof of hardship and the circumstances you are facing in order to help you.
Do you use a billing company in another state?
No. We do all of our billing "in house" and our staff is highly trained in billing and collections from your insurance carrier. You may receive a request from one of the staff to assist
us with an appeal for proper payment from your insurance carrier per the regulatory guidelines in Colorado. We have found the best way to care for our patients after they have been hospitalized is to
provide exemplary service on the billing side as well. If you experience anything less, please let our Administrator know of your concerns.
